First Perfect-Weather Weekend Of The Year

I'm going to chalk the last few days up as having been another great weekend.

When I was younger, I used to be really into baseball. There was a park less than a block away from my house, and my neighbor and I would go down and hit a few every once in awhile. I had a pretty sizeable card collection which, unfortunately, seems to have vanished. What took me away from baseball? I'm not sure, but I'm almost hooked on it again. Part of me is resisting.

Saturday I went to my first Cubs game and the second baseball game that I've ever gone to. We had excellent seats, and the game was pretty back and forth. If there was ever a perfect situation to stir up my hunger for baseball, this was it. And it did. I'm hungry. As usual, pictures will probably take a week for me to actually get uploaded to flickr.

Sunday consisted of a trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo and then the Conservatory. Both were nice and I had a great time, and now I'm really looking forward to seeing the zoo in the summer when the trees are full of leaves and the flowers are in bloom.

You went to Lincoln Park Zoo on Sunday. I went to Brookfield Zoo on Sunday. It was the perfect day for a trip to the zoo.

What years were your prime for baseball card collecting? Mine were 1989-1992. I started buying cards in 1984. From about 1988 to 1992 the manufacturers produced countless cards and just about all of them really have no value. Oh well. Nowadays you can't buy a pack for less than $1.50 or $2 and you get only 7 cards. Pathetic.

If you have a hunger for baseball, then you should be part of a fantasy league. OH YEAH. Even though the season has already started, and so have many fantasy leagues, you can still participate in the mlb fantasy stuff.

    They have Beat the Streak.

You pick one player every day and try to continue your hitting streak. If you get 56 games in a row, you win one million dollars.

They used to let you create a private league, so you can see how your friends' streaks are doing. But I don't see a private league option on there. Hrmmm.

Erik, we have lots of cards from 1988.. Or at least I do. Can anyone say "1988 Score complete set?" That's right. One of the most worthless sets ever. Yet, it's so colorful.

DANG! your comment shows up with a blue background. NICE. of course five years from now when your site is completely different, this comment will make no sense.

However, the shaded colors in the comments are nothing like the bright vibrant colors of the 1988 Score complete set.

freakin-a. look at that long paragraph of text that Score would put on the backs of their 1988 set. http://mlb.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pMLB2-1477104dt.jpg You don't get player insight like that from cards nowadays.

I do not like that i have to pay beckett $5.99 a month just to get one price for a baseball card. I want to make my own series of something worthless, and then release an idiosyncratic price guide tellign people how much my worthless items are worth; thereby giving them worth.

Just like people know to go to Beckett for cards. They will go to Maldre for uh, stuff. I am commenting this.

Ah yes, the 1988 Score Baseball set. To this day I am still baffled as to why there are three stars on the front of the card. What does this mean? I have been stumped since 1988.

Beckett is worthless. ebay has essentially replaced beckett in determining the true value of baseball cards. Viva la open market.

uh. moose. hello. blue is reserved for the owner of this blog, sparx.

The three stars. uh. hello. It's called a design element.

oh. blue for the host. ok. i am shamed. I still like to think there's some sort of planned pattern to it. Just call me Mr. Grassy Knoll.

Though I'm not buying the three stars being a design element. There's some sort of significance to it. Otherwise it's a really, really bad design element. Maybe I should start putting three star groupings randomly throughout my designs and see how quickly my boss kicks me in the pants.

Of course it's planned.. since I had to program it.

Odd numbered comments are grey, mine are blue, any comment directly after mine is considered an odd numbered post… all of your comments are just odd. :-P
