Road Trip (Santa Fe, NM)

In about 2 hours I leave on a road trip to Santa Fe, NM.
It's about 1,300 miles. WOOOHA.

Looking at the map just now I was thrown off, because the directions had us going through Las Vegas. Apparently there is a Las Vegas in New Mexico – about an hour east of Santa Fe.

I'm going to try (to remember) to use InstaMapper's android app to track my location during the trip. I've set it up to submit my GPS coordinates every 30 minutes.

And less than 8 weeks from now I head to the REAL Las Vegas. I'm going to be flying for that trip though. It's been almost 10 years since my last (and first) time flying – I'm glad that the idea of flying doesn't terrify me completely (just a little).

This post is a bit rambling I guess.

tl;dr – 1,300 mile road trip to Santa Fe starts in about 2 hours. Vegas in October. Wooh.

Amazon testing a new design?

…on just me? No one I've asked seems to be seeing this. I wonder how large of a group they're testing it on.

The orange and blue theme seems to have been replaced with a cleaner looking grey theme. The left category navigation bar has been replaced with a drop-down menu which expands further to the right depending on the category hovered over.

I'm attaching 3 screenshots, one of the entire new layout, a closeup of the drop-down, and a screenshot of the old layout (I don't get the new one if I open amazon in Chrome, just Firefox)

Haberdasher is an awesome word!

From wikipedia:

A haberdasher is a person who sells small articles for sewing, such as buttons, ribbons, zips, and other notions. In American English, haberdasher is another term for a men's outfitter.

I wish people used this word more often. "Yeah, I've gotta go to the haberdasher after work."

Whoops! Someone can't spell "Exclusive"

Every day Amazon.com's Android Appstore has a new paid app that is being given away for free. Check out the promo image for today's free (New York Post) app:
New York Post Android App - "Exclusive" misspelled
There are 2 things to take away from this screenshot:
1) Someone forgot the "c" in "Exclusive"… that's right: this is an Exlusive launch!
2) 130 ratings and the average is 2/5 stars. Why? Because the app is normally $1.99 and still includes an excessive amount of ads.

Sirens in Songs

Whenever I'm driving and there's a song on the radio that has a police siren-like noise, there's a brief instant of panic. It's totally a Pavlovian response type situation, one in which I (luckily) don't end up drooling.

So, I was thinking… and here's an idea that anyone writing the next hit "radio" song can steal. It's 3 steps:
1) Create a hit song and sprinkle some choice words throughout the song that you know will never be able to be played on to the radio
2) Create a "radio edit" version that has some background sirens added.
3) Imagine people having a similar response as me and laugh about it.

My Calendar

Woah!

My calendar has an entire week blocked off in October with something about a trip to Las Vegas…
I guess if it's on my calendar I'll have to do it.

2-cent Mystery

Yesterday someone left 2 pennies on my desk.
I've got the "what", "when" and "where", but the "who" and "why" are unknowns!
