Things I don't know about Zombies

I hate to admit it, but my preparedness for a Zombie attack is not very complete yet. In fact there are several things I just don't have any clue about.

Some of them are:
Can a Zombie drown?
Is it possible for a shark to become infected by a Zombie?
Do Zombies need to sleep?
How long can a Zombie live without feeding?
Is tear gas an effective deterrent? Bear spray?
What would happen if Superman was infected by a Zombie? (This might be a FAWM song!)

(Yes, I'm treating "Zombie" as a proper noun and capitalizing it as such.)

Shoe Music

If you work in a place that has tile flooring, or some other non-carpet flooring, you've probably learned to tune out the noise of everyone walking around. Maybe. I can't.

High heels, boots, or flip-flops; tip-toers, striders, or stompers – there are tons of different shoe sounds made every day. I think it would be neat if someone sampled a bunch of people walking and turned it into a complete song. Melodies, percussion, maybe even lyrics (not easily) all created from the sounds of people's shoes hitting the ground.

I bet there's an entire album of shoe music somewhere… there almost has to be!

And before anyone suggests that I take this on and make a FAWM song in this style… the idea is neat, but actually doing it seems incredibly tedious. I'd like someone else to do it.

2011 Blog Posting

How am I doing on my goal of posting every weekday again? So far so good.
I'm not sure how many posts I actually wrote in 2010, but I think I might actually be nearing that number pretty soon.

Yay!
If I'm using this as a metric, 2011 totally RAWKS!

FAWM [Part 2]

There. I just signed up at FAWM.org. If I have any song progress, I'll most likely post it here, but just in case I don't – you can check my FAWM page at http://fawm.org/fawmers/sparx/.

February Album Writing Month

FAWM.org – the February Album Writing Month, is a challenge for song writers to write 14 songs during the month of February.

My bud Cacti introduced me to this (and has participated in it) for several years now, and I think I might try my hand at it, although not quite the 14 song goal. I think my target will be 1-2 songs, and if I have a surge of inspirado, I'll try to hit the full 14.

With (Cactus) Joe's help, at one point I felt like I had the creative chops to take on song writing, but my comfort zone ended up pulling me back down to feeling like a source of inspiration rather than a recipient of the inspirado. We'll see if February can pull me out of that comfort zone a little.

My normal "creative" outlet has been programming. When I get bored I churn out a few lines of Python code, and if I finish a project I then marvel in whatever it does. To anyone looking, it's just a bunch of code that maybe does some screwy processing with some random data source, spits out a bunch of numbers, whatever – but to me it's almost like writing a song, or creating a painting (painting a painting sounded weird).

So… if you have any great ideas for a song – do tell!

Too Wintery!

I don't even want to risk putting up a post of more than a few sentences. I'm afraid that these subzero temperatures could cause the bits to freeze somewhere in the tubes and clog the whole internet!

Consumerist Minus Phil

I'm subscribed to the RSS feed of The Consumerist. For the most part it's an easy way to stay on top of "consumer" related issues that may affect me or someone I know, and may be overlooked or just glossed over by the other media outlets that feed me information.

I (and a seemingly large group of commenters on Consumerist) am pretty sick of one of their authors though, Phil Villarreal. If you look at the dumbest posts on consumerist.com, it's almost guaranteed that they've been authored by Phil. You see, Phil seems to aim for sensational headlines that try to turn a non-story into something that should shock and appall the reader.

These are a few stories that I expect to see from Phil if he is allowed to continue his nonsense:
"Shopper buys $5 worth of goods. Pays with a $10 bill. Only gets $5 back!"
"Coffee shop customer burned. Coffee shop never told him not to pour coffee directly into eye."
"Customer smashes product with sledgehammer. Returns all pieces to store. Store refuses refund."

If Consumerist won't remove Phil's nonsense, then the only alternative is to take matters into my own hands. So, I've created this RSS feed "Consumerist Minus Phil" (http://feeds.feedburner.com/ConsumeristMinusPhil) which will remove any articles authored by "Phil Villarreal".
Feel free to use it if you'd like.
