I Can't Brain Today
(11:40:26 AM) spudart: what if you met someone whose name is Google?
(11:40:31 AM) spudart: "Hi, I'm Google."
(11:40:48 AM) sparx: i would marry her
(11:40:53 AM) sparx: and it would be a her
(11:41:16 AM) sparx: and i'd never have to worry about remembering where the remote control is
(11:41:27 AM) sparx: i could just yell out "Hey Google.. where's the remote?"
(11:41:47 AM) sparx: it would probably be the 3rd result though
(11:42:06 AM) sparx: i'd end up sidetracked and somehow be waiting for a new remote to come via UPS
(11:48:34 AM) spudart: lol

So we have Google the company, Google the verb, Google the person's name. What about Google the adjective? Oh man, I am having such a google day. That is, not a day that is full of googling acitivity. But rather to imply tha tthe day is either good or bad. Or maybe a day that is full of discovery.

Eww.. Altavista used to get around back in the day. I'd be careful with that one spudart.
… forgotten for a reason.

I love it.
Remember the search engine, "iwon.com"? They had some crazy promotional campaign where they gave away something like $1 million a day? They had a big ad blitz during the Super Bowl around 2000 or 2001.
I remember AltaVista being a hot, European chick. It was Webcrawler who got around the block a few times. Teoma was fun to hang out with. She knew a lot. And then there was HotBot. mmmmm… mmmmm…. Need I say more?

I never allowed myself to get sucked into iwon.com
Around the same time of inception, a site "iwin.com" also appeared. They had flash and java games, and you could play them for points which could be redeemed at various places like amazon.
One of the games was very easy to win at if you accidentally figured out a great way to cheat. I got a few videos (VHS! This was waaay back) out of it.
Altavista was alway my second choice. Hotbot was my "google" of the time. I remember when they offered free email accounts. I jumped on "sparx @hotbot.com" faster than you can say "sparx at hotbot dot com." That was back when they were a sister company of Wired magazine.. then the whole thing got absorbed by lycos and it all sucked. Instantly. I still love lycos's policy of deleting email/email accounts that have been inactive for 30 days.
