Shamrock Day

This weekend I intend to watch the Chicago River turn green. I think I'm more interested in watching that than the big St. Patrick's Day parade that's going to be going on a little later in the day. HOPEFULLY I can get some video of the water during it's color transformation, but depending on how crowded it is, I can't guarantee anything.

I know there are a lot of logistical problems, but wouldn't it be cool if the Polar Bear Plunge got involved in this? They could set up a floating barge in the river for people to leap from into the refreshing Irishy water. I'm not sure what is used to dye the water, but I'm imagining something that would at least temporarily adhere to a person. Imagine a bunch of people emerging out of the water covered in - GREEN. Maybe they could reformulate it a bit so it stuck around for a couple of days. It'd be like a badge of honor - "I'm green because I risked my life to raise money for the Special Olympics!"

Daylight Saving Time

Clock at Ogilvie
I've never really figured out how I feel about daylight saving time. It's easy to complain about those first few days, because it manages to throw my already skewed sense of time off even more.

The "extra" daylight is nice, but I can't help and wonder what would happen if we just picked a time and stuck it out. Sure, things get a bit wonky as seasons change, but I'm willing to endure that rather than having to remember to magically increase or decrease a day by an entire hour.

One habit that I've gotten into is fixing everyone else's clocks. Microwaves and stoves are prime targets during this time, along with some VCRs (you know, the ones that still display the time on the front.) This year though, everyone seems to have figured out how to do it themselves - other than my own time-keeping devices, I only had to change the time in one vehicle. Part of me is disappointed - the rest of me wants to pummel that part for being such a nerd.

The clocks here in the library still haven't been updated which always irks me because they're controlled from a central time-keeping place on campus. I'm guessing that the other buildings are all correct, but I have a feeling whoever needs to push the button to make all the clocks advance to the right time immediately is just waiting to see how long it takes for someone to call and ask nicely to put us an hour into the future.

Marsians?

Modern Ice - Scraps

Spudart just added the tag "marsians" to one of my ice pictures on flickr. I seem to have a thing for misspellings (I tend to spell that word wrong) and am usually curious as to how they're used and how often.

Right now a search on flickr for "marsians" bring up some neat pictures.

Ron Paul Wins!

It's not the presidential election, but with over 70% of the votes, Ron Paul maintains his congressional seat for another term.

Apparently the 14th District of Texas appreciates his representation.

Flickr!

I just upgraded to a pro account on flickr a couple of hours ago. Finally.

It's one of those things that I've tossed onto my "to do" list several times, only to take it right back off because I figure I won't use it enough to make it worth the cost. I don't take that many pictures and most of the ones that I do take aren't anything special.

It's something to do though. Something creative, something enjoyable, a hobby of sorts - which is why I just tossed money at it. Hopefully that small investment will cause me to become a bit more proactive with my camera encouraging me to look at things differently. Hopefully I'll start taking better pictures. :)

A good chunk of the people reading this probably already know where to find my seldomly updated pictures, but for anyone else that may be curious, or bored, or whatever, here's a link to my flickr page.

I'm On Vacation

I'm on vacation, so I'll just post a quick webcomic and get back to playing with flickr, emailing, and other stuff I haven't been able to do in FOREVER.

This is from theWAREHOUSE:
