If Bears Can Do It…

It's getting cold. Wintery. I wore a jacket today.

I've noticed that these last few days I've begun to feel a bit more sluggish than usual. More likely to just feel like curling up and taking a nap, it doesn't even bother me as much now that I'm completely alone with no one to curl up with. I just wanna hibernate. This morning, for a brief amount of time, I felt really motivated. I managed to do enough work that I can now just sit and do almost nothing for the rest of the day. Like a bear eating and preparing before the long nap.

I'm also very easily distracted. Much more so than usual. One of the fluorescent bulbs in my office is going out. There's an occasional annoying flicker, but right now it's doing some neat "plasma spiral" thing.. it's like one of those rotating barber shop poles, but with light. It's pretty trippy.

Anyway.. cold = hibernation. Is this a measured human phenomenon? I know we don't have anything as drastic as those wonderful sleepy bears, but do we get less active when the weather starts acting like my freezer? Or am I just looking for an excuse for my laziness?

Scott Would Know What to Do

Amidst the free pizza cutters, pill holders, stress balls, candy, and pens that make up the "Employee Benefits Fair" I encountered a realization.. my life is a mess. A stress ball can't stress-ball away stress.. just like a pizza cutter can't pizza-cut away stress. Don't even get me started on the pill holder.

So, I've come up with two solutions for making things right:

  1. Figure out a way to actually get the one thing that I've spent the last 3 years trying to hold on to.
  2. Somehow invoke Scott Bakula and allow him to live my life for one day.

Solution 1 is much more appealing (and less creepy) and it's the way I plan to go. I don't know if I'll succeed, but if I don't try.. well, it'll be another goal, another important thing that I've let slip through my fingers. Another thing that I'll regret for the rest of my life.

On the other hand, solution 2 might work out best. Scott Bakula is the only person that can take an insurmountable obstacle, and tackle it in less than an hour (commercials included.) He'd probably end up with exactly what I wanted, and sort everything else out in less than 10 minutes.

Sunspot even wrote a song about him.

Oh boy.

Candy-dish Adventures

As some of you may already know, I've recently placed a bowl of candy in my office. It serves two main purposes: 1) to keep a supply of candy no more than 3 feet away from me, and 2) to be nice and share candy with people.. because that's just the kind of guy I am.

I've made a few observations over the last few days, and now I'm going to share them with you - whether you like it or not. :-P

  • Given the choice between a Snickers bar or a PayDay bar, most people will choose the Snickers.. but when left alone in a bowl, the PayDay's disappear much more quickly.
  • People are afraid to take the last candy bar. If I leave one bar in the bowl, it'll stay there. If I add another to keep it company, one of them is very likely to disappear.
  • Traffic to my office doesn't seem to have changed much, and not many people come in to get candy when I'm in here. It seems as if they prefer to snatch a bar or two when no one is around to see them do it.
  • There is a janitor (named Robert) that apparently takes candy. Robert is not afraid to take the last piece. Robert is also not afraid to go through someone's desk drawers and take even more candy out of them. I've left post-it notes addressed to Robert under the candy, and in my desk - I pray he doesn't force me to escalate matters.

My phone isn't ringing nearly enough. Sometimes that's really hard to cope with.

Goodbye Hiatus

It's Monday, and as promised (threatened?) my short break from blogging has come to an end. Removing blogging and all other concerns from my life for just a few days has allowed me to sort things out quite a bit. I've solidified a few goals in my head. Basically, I know what I want, but I'm still not sure how to go about getting it.

I've also realized that life likes to play tricks on me.. mostly related to my most important goal. It's almost like the proverbial carrot being dangled in front of a horse.. except in my case, the stick holding the carrot is about 107 miles long. I think that eventually, even the stupidest horse will find a way to get to the carrot…. I happen to be a very stupid horse, and could really use a little help getting there, otherwise I'm afraid I'll do something stupid and lose sight of the carrot forever.

Anyway.. the posting schedule is going to change a bit. There will no longer be saturday/sunday posts - I might throw in an occasional "bonus post" on the weekend, but for the most part these days will be post-free. The saturday lolcat post will move to friday. The other weekdays will continue as they have been.

When the Silence Feels Like Death

So, this latest incarnation of my blog has been going for about 3 months now. I've managed to stick to my goal of posting at least once a day. Yes, some of the posts have been a bit lacking, but they're there, they get comments, so they're at least providing some sort of purpose - provoking some thoughts and reactions.

I hate to break this streak, but I need to take a temporary step back from blogging. I just need to get my head around some things, and being tempted to do it on here is not something that I want to succumb to and subject my few awesome readers to. So - it's not much of a hiatus.. I'll be back with a fresh post on Monday. Like I said, I just need a few days to sort things out.

And for those of you that crave the weekly lolcat summary post - don't fret, I'm not skipping that post. This Saturday you'll still be able get your fix of humorously captioned cat goodness.

Let's Stop and Think for Once

Last week, I think it was Tuesday night, we got a nice amount of rain. Rain is good, unless you're building a house, which I currently happen to be helping with - that's completely unrelated to anything though. The next morning on my way to work I noticed one of the city trucks driving slowly along the edge of the road. They were watering the hanging plants along main street. I thought it was stupid, but shrugged it off. Last night it rained again, this morning.. they were watering the plants again. I can't understand how a schedule can be so inflexible that it doesn't allow for things like this to change.

I brought in candy to work today. Snickers and Payday bars. It seemed like a nice gesture, and I can claim that that was the intention, and I'd be partly truthful. My office is not very well trafficked, so a few people will notice the candy and hopefully help themselves, but for the most part, I think I just put out a bowl of candy for myself.  If I keep it stocked, it'll just help me with my goal of gaining weight (still another 15lbs.)

Wal-mart sells mixed nuts. The 17oz container is $3.96 - the 34oz is $7.98.. buy in bulk and spend more?

If I use the word "McDonald's" somewhere in this post, like right there, will it get more comments? This will be considered a test of what I'll refer to as "The Law of Moose."
